A Decade of Friendship: The "Kael" Custom Scarf

There is something incredibly special about creating a piece for someone who has been in your life through every twist and turn. Today on the blog, I’m sharing a very special project from Firefly Designs—a surprise for Kael. We’ve known each other since I was only 7 years old!

The Magic Number 7

This scarf is all about the "sevens." Kael and I have known each other since I was just 7 years old. Now, he’s 17! To mark that decade of friendship, I decided to go big with this design.

My dad was so nice to model this for me before I gave it to Kael.

The finished piece is a substantial 7 feet long and 7 inches wide.

I wanted something that felt nice and warm—a scarf that could be wrapped multiple times to brave the winter chill.

The Design

Using a beautiful palette of cream, deep burgundy, and a soft mauve-tweed, I worked this up in a classic crochet granny stitch. 

This stitch creates a wonderful drape and a timeless look that works for anyone. 

I finished the ends with a deep burgundy fringe to give it that extra bit of weight and style.

Why This Project Matters

Kael has always been one of my biggest supporters. In the photo below, you can see us at a marching band event—he’s always there to cheer me on when I perform. 

Having a friend who shows up for you like that is rare, and I wanted to return the favor by making something by hand that he can use for years to come.

I hope this scarf keeps him warm throughout his senior year and beyond!
